When hunting for closet staples I tend to agonize over nice dresses and nice shoes. Both are investment pieces and rightfully so – the best pieces in your closet should especially be meant to last – worn in and worn well, season over season.
I’ve landed on two keepers between Cuyana, the San Francisco-based lean closet brand started by two friends, and Loeffler Randall, the shoe company founded by a husband and wife who started designing the elegant, effortless shoes they couldn’t find elsewhere.
Cuyana’s Gathered Silk Shirtdress is made in the US (a rarity in 2016) of luxuriously thick crepe de chine silk. From the subtle shoulder gatherings and roll-’em-up sleeves to the rich navy blue hue, this dress gets everything right and checks all my boxes for a go-to one piece. I’m 5’8″ and the small hangs juuust right.
During the week I’ve been dressing it down with a strappy pair of Ancient Greek nude flats and styling it up on the weekends with these Loeffler Randall “Luz” Sandals. I love, love the fringe details, jet black vachetta leather, comfortable block heel, and adjustable lace up style. Plus, the tassels are removable for a super minimal look.
I don’t buy heels often and am so glad that I waited a few seasons until I found this pair! They are true to size on my narrow US 8 foot. If you’re between sizes or on the fence, go up half a size for a perfect fit. Shopbop has them (and everything else) on sale through this Thursday. There are also a couple of flat versions in the collection if you love the tassels but are hunting for something really casual.
