Earlier this week on a visit to North Georgia I went to sleep with a bedroom window open and woke up to find the season’s first frost had settled overnight. I couldn’t help but jump out of bed and scurry around the crisp grass, gulping up big deep breaths that fogged up every exhale. I love everything about fall, from brisk morning walks over scalding coffee and crunching leaves in riding boots, to long campfire nights spent over red wine and under big woolly blankets.
Without fail this time of year also sparks a hankering in me to inspect and refresh my clothes a bit – a routine imprinted on me in grade school when we’d go back to school shopping each fall. This week I realized that my closet is leaner than it’s ever been since developing that shopping habit, and I am happier with my wardrobe than ever. Through keeping this blog I’ve become a smarter shopper, have learned how to effectively edit my wardrobe, and am much better about letting go of things that don’t work.
So over the past few months I’ve felt well prepared to hunt for cold weather odds and ends: First making a list of needs and nice-to-haves, then considering colors and patterns, shopping around tried and true brands that I know fit my style and body well, and then starting to search sites and shops to make purchases. (Before I started any of this, I first shopped my closet and sorted out the unworn and worn out!). Here’s what I’ll be wearing all fall and winter long:
The more I find from Everlane, the more I fall in love with this brand. Here is a company that treats people well and keeps a perfect balance of quality and affordability. I am all about their cotton and wool “Sweater Long-Sleeve“, “Ryan” tank, Seed Stitch Sweater, and the Cotton V in black, white, and grey.
For a very long time I’ve had my eye on Saint Laurent. After setting up searches on a few resale sites and waiting for weeks, I unexpectedly ended up springing on the above wristlet on eBay and, for more formal affairs, a Ligne collection crossbody from Hedi Slimane’s inaugural collection on Tradesy within a few days of one another. They’re gorgeous and I am so happy to have found them – especially as I got both for less than regular retail price of the Ligne alone! From time to time there are also great deals on Saint Laurent on Bluefly, Nordstrom, Gilt, and Overstock.
Every few weeks bring something new in the mail with Rocksbox. They’re one of my favorite collaborations to date and have nailed my style and the jewelry subscription model. Unlike many subscription fashion boxes, with Rocksbox you only keep what you choose to hang onto forever and you only get a new box once you’ve sent back your current jewels. You can still get a complimentary box with code jesshuntxoxo.
My best-fitting jeans are all by Paige Denim, and I love that they’re still Made in USA. I know my size and favorite cuts, so trying new styles like these coated black pants is easy because I know they’ll fit perfectly. My favorite spots to find them are eBay, Poshmark, and Tradesy. There are also occasionally deals to be found on Paige on at Nordstrom and Shopbop.
I’ve been thinking of this Janessa Leone hat ever since I first tried it on a year ago at Lou & Grey. I finally found it on sale a few weeks ago and scooped it up just in time for sweater weather. This style is called “Lucy” and is available on Revolve, Shoptiques, and at Janessa Leone HQ. Love that everything Janessa Leone is also Made in USA!
That rounds out my shortlist. What are you living in this fall?
