A Warm Weather Wardrobe

A year and a half after the big question, CPR & I met up with The Hons to snap engagement photos and grab a drink at Krog Street Market. It was wonderful to finally meet Brittani and Jon, and I’m so excited to have them on board for the big day this fall. They’re so much fun to hang out with that half the time we forgot they were even taking pictures!

Everlane and Eyelash Lace

Apr 29, 2015

Spring time and the living is… super comfortable. On repeat: My Everlane sweater (trusty as ever) and some fresh eyelash lace shorts. I am loving the easy luxe of lacy track shorts and leather shorts alike as April disappears into a humid May that is bound to be filled with concerts and bike rides through Hotlanta!

EVERLANE RAGLAN COTTON SWEATER: Full review and more Everlane spring favorites here. EYELASH LACE SHORTS: Poshmark. Similar pairs also on Tradesy. Midi rings, ASOS (would not buy again – these rings tarnished quickly). Sunglasses, Ray-Ban. Thrifted bracelets, watch, bag, flats.

Lou & Grey: DIYs, Cocktail Recipes, Shop the Collection

avalon lou and grey

It’s hard to tell which was more popular at last night’s spring launch with Lou & Grey – the DIYs, American Spirit southern cocktails, or insanely comfy clothes! Here are details on all three:

For beach waves, the softest hair, and an extra day between shampoos, combine into a spray bottle:

1/2 tablespoon pink Himalayan salt
1/4 tablespoon French grey salt
1/4 tablespoon Epsom salt
1/2 teaspoon fractionated coconut oil
8 tablespoons near-boiling water
Optional: 4 drops of essential oil

Stir the mixture until it’s a uniform pink color throughout. If your scalp is usually oily, go sans coconut oil. If your hair is usually very dry, reverse the amounts of Himalayan and epsom salts. Shake up the bottle before each use, and spritz through dry hair or halfway through blow drying. Then tousle those ocean waves through your beautiful locks!

For a soothing spray that freshens clothes and linens, combine into a spray bottle:

1 ounce witch hazel
15 drops of essential oil

Shake before using, and store in a cool, dark place. Witch hazel is a popular toner, so you can also refrigerate and spritz on your face and body to freshen up after a long day.

In a cocktail glass, combine ASW and sweet tea over ice. Add dash of bitters. Top with lemon soda. Stir and, optionally, garnish with lemon slice. This refreshing spring drink was inspired by a secluded beach near Cumberland Island and a secret family recipe.

1 ½ oz American Spirit Whiskey
2 oz sweet tea
3 oz bitter lemon soda
1 dash Fee Brothers orange bitters
1 slice lemon

In an ice-filled rocks glass or copper mug, combine ASW, bitters, and lime juice. Add ginger beer to finish, and garnish with lime slice. This one is a southern take on the famed Moscow Mule and was dreamed up on an April afternoon in Athens, Georgia.

2 oz American Spirit Whiskey
4 oz ginger beer
1 dash Angostura bitters
¼ oz lime juice

There is so much to love about Lou & Grey’s spring line, from the tailored, easy fit of every single piece to the oh-so-soft natural materials woven throughout the collection.

I am living in this grey spacedye maxi dress (℅, true to size, I’m wearing a small) and olive knit zip-pocket pants (℅, size down if you’re on the fence, the extra small fits me perfectly), and can’t wait to start styling a pair of buttery soft suede shorts.

Thank you to the ladies at Lou & Grey Avalon and all of wonderful folks who stopped by last night. It was great to see you!

Longer days and blooming trees are calling me (and Kipper!) for a romp through North Georgia fields. I’m living in this soft washed Lou & Grey roll-tab shirt and my favorite leather shorts, still carrying this big thrifted fringe scarf wherever I go. It’s my salve for chilly nights, a makeshift tote, and the perfect blanket for a spontaneous picnic.

If you’re out and about next weekend, I’ll be at Lou & Grey Avalon the evening of April 25th to share more of their gorgeous upcoming spring collection. There will be a mixologist on hand shaking up bespoke Southern cocktails, sweet treats, a DIY, and loads of Lou & Grey’s so-soft linen, silk, suede, and cotton. Their spring preview is live today (sale section is also freshly restocked), and I’ll share more event details soon (Update: 7-9 pm, April 25th. Hope to see you there!).

Spring Favorites: Rocksbox, E-Biking, Frye Sandals, Thrift Finds

Apr 5, 2015

The sun-drunk smile says it all: Warm weather and blue skies have finally settled in for a spell in Atlanta! Quite a departure from just a month ago. Along with the glorious sunny weather, this spring I’m enjoying:

My second set of jewels from Rocksbox. Within a few days of tucking my first round back in the mail, a fresh set arrived with these beauties from Gorjana and Margaret Elizabeth. I’m so fond of the Amalfi Cuff that I may keep it around forever – the slow sparkle of the labradorite is too lovely.

After a long cold snap, I had forgotten how relaxing a commute in the sunshine can be. Back in the saddle on my trusty Currie E-Zip and excited to find that since she was delivered last year, I’ve more than cut my annual car mileage in half – on top of saving on gas ($25 a month), office parking ($750 a year), and car insurance costs (nearly 50% mileage discount). Also saving a bunch of time on my daily commute. I only wish there was a way to measure how much cycling to work improves my daily mood. If you’re on the fence and able to commute by bike, rent an e-bike or road bike for a couple weeks. It’s been a wonderful change to my routine!

With the finish of the year of Nothing New I’ve finally snapped up some sandals I’ve long had my eyes on: Frye Carson Ankle Zip Sandal in Camel. These are a welcomed replacement to the tattered Kors Ava sandals I’d walked the soles off of over the last two years. These have a much more cushioned sole, softer feel, are made of Frye’s rich leather, and run pretty true to size. I sized down half a size since my feet are very narrow and know leather can give a little with some wear.

As I begin the seasonal switch to a warmer wardrobe, my obsession with all things linen continues in hunting for soft thrifted shirts and shorts. This weekend I scored some thrift grail from Max Mara, Gooran Brothers, and Stella McCartney – excited to share them soon! And in true R&F fashion, still mixing in the new with some old favorites, like this old Zara cardigan and my beloved Ray-Bans.
